The Municipality of Huron East is excited to announce that our ‘Creating a welcoming and inclusive downtown Brussels’ Project was selected for the My Main Street Community Activator initiative! With this support, we aim to beautify the main street and create a more inviting space for people of all ages and abilities by adding elements including:
- Streetlight banners;
- Accessible benches;
- New waste receptacles (including receptacles for garbage and recycling);
- Accessible picnic tables;
- New planters;
- Two new bike racks;
- New downtown mural;
- New parkette solar lighting;
- New hanging baskets and streetpole flower hangers;
- Downtown trees and Brussels branded tree containers; and
- Two ornamental pear trees for in front of the LCBO.
These improvements are now complete. This project is supported by the My Main Street program, the Canadian Urban Institute, and the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
July 2024 Quick Poll
Thank you to everyone who participated in the quick poll and voted on their favourite bench and waste receptacle. Staff decided to go with Bench Option 1 to provide accessible bench options for those with mobility issues in the downtown. Receptacle Option 3 was chosen (second highest number of votes) as it is from the same company as Bench Option 1 and very similar to the one that received the most votes.
December-January Resident Feedback Survey
