February 20, 2024 Update: The Huron East Community Improvement Plan was adopted by Council on February 20, 2024. The final document is available in the right panel.

The Municipality of Huron East is in the process of developing a Huron East Community Improvement Plan (CIP), which will allow us to implement certain financial incentives, such as façade, signage and accessibility grants. Previously, separate CIPs were created for downtown Brussels and Seaforth for façade improvements only.

Thank you to the business owners, commercial property owners and those involved or interested in residential development who took the time to complete the survey about potential financial incentive programs. Based on this feedback and a review of relevant reports and plans, Staff drafted a Huron East Community Improvement Plan, which can be found in the right panel.

Public Open Houses were held on January 29th from 2:00p.m.-4:00p.m. at the Brussels Library Branch and from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. at the Municipal Office in Seaforth to gather feedback from the community regarding the Draft CIP. Staff updated the first draft based on community feedback and feedback from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Changes include:

  • Addition of a new program for agri-business innovation;
  • removal of the Branding, Design and Marketing Grant (design will be an eligible expense in the Façade and Signage Improvement Programs);
  • removal of the Site Design and Study Grant (site studies incorporated into the Planning Application and Building Permit Fee Program);
  • addition of a glossary of terms; and
  • more details about the application process.

Staff will bring forward the Second Draft CIP to Council on February 20, 2024.
